Lesson 2: Technology and the Music Industry
A Key Term: Technological Convergence
The meaning of this term is when two technologies come together. For example, IPod and The IPhone. This makes consuming music all the more effective and convenient. An entire music collection in your pocket.
Distribution Company; They sign deals with record labels, in rare cases they sell them with artists.
That gives them the rights to sell their label's products to stores that have an account with that distributor.
Increasing the global reach of the internet is becoming the aim of many multi-media distributions. This is because the internet is the most used thing on the internet.

How was technology changed the music industry?
- As internet evolves, things like downloading has become a lot easier. This is a disadvantage for those willing to sell. People can just get things from the internet, for free and no contribution to the sales. Quicker access comes from the internet. Music, movies, etc. For an individual to actually go to a store and pick up the CD...seems highly unlikely than it did compared to the past. Actual musicians have to work significantly hardly harder because their success is not measured through internet downloads. They have to go to do concerts and make their music outstanding. A way to this is by promotion. Finding artists means now that you have to have the money. A record label is very helpful, but you need to be on a good foundation to get the most out of it.
